Why should you make a Last Will & Testament?

  • Choose who you wish to inherit your assets. It could be family, friends or even a charity.
  • If you have children aged under 18, a Will allows you to decide who will look after your children if you were no longer here (legal guardians).
  • Name those people you trust to distribute your assets and carry out your wishes (your Executors).
  • Minimise inheritance tax (death tax) paid by your loved ones.
  • Avoids assets moving away from the family, e.g. in the case of divorce or remarriage of a beneficiary.
  • Exclude an estranged family member who l.may usually be entitled under the Will.
  • Safeguard business assets

What happens if I die without a valid Will?

People often think that if they have a partner who they have resided with for many years, or a spouse through marriage, that they will automatically receive each others assets by default on first death, but sadly this is not the case. Particularly if there are children of either person. Please read our intestacy flowchart to see how your assets would pass without a valid Will in place.

Will writing with Florins

There is a general misconception that Wills are only for the elderly or those who have wealth, but this is not correct. If you have any dependents, a child or even pets, a will is essential to ensure they receive the right care and access to assets when you are no longer here.

As a Will is a legally binding document, it is important to have it professionally prepared by a qualified will writer. Will writing from a professional means your wishes are less likely to be disputed and are not likely to be seen as invalid in the court of law.

  • I have recommended the firm to several people

I cannot rate Sophie and her professionalism any higher. The process of writing my will was done with care, and compassion and was not as daunting a process as I thought it would be. I have recommended the firm to several people since and will continue to do so.

  • Very professional and knowledgeable

My sister and I received excellent advice from Sophie Vines in the legal services department and we found her to be very professional and knowledgeable. Sophie always responded very quickly to any questions we had by communicating complex legal jargon into understandable layman's terms I would highly recommend Sophie to anybody requiring any of their legal services.
